A Civil Society Organisation, Centre For Awareness On Awareness On Justice and Accountability (CAJA) on Thursday appealed to the Inspector General of Police Muhammad Adamu to transfer Kano state police commissioner Rabiu
The CSO alleged that the police commissioner has become partisan and may not be able to create a level playing field for politicians and political parties in the fourth coming general elections.
Centre For Awareness On Awareness On Justice and Accountability Executive Director, Comrade Kabiru Saidu Dakata made the call at a news conference in Kano allegeding that the CP, Rabiu Yusuf has compromised neutrality in the discharge of his duties hence eroding confidence of the residents on the police.
Comrade Kabiru Dakata said most actions and body language of the police commissioner have indicated that he takes side with the ruling party in Kano which poses danger before during and after the general elections.
He cited so many instances that indicated that the CP takes side.
“It started becoming open on January 30, 2018, at a rally in Kwanar Dangora, where governor Ganduje, the Chief Whip of the Federal House of Representatives, Alhasan Ado Doguwa, some state government officials and hundreds of APC`s followers were seen holding weapons at a rally ahead of local government election which held in the state on February 10, 2018. The display of weapons is still going on even as the campaign rallies for the 2019 elections are going on.”
He added that the Police Commissioner look the other way when the ruling party in Kano uses hate and inflammable speeches, citing the same rally at Kwanar Dangora, the Chief Whip of the Federal House of Representatives, abused supporters of the former governor of Kano State, Sen. Rabiu Musa Kwakwanso and said they will attack them at any moment which was circulated on Youtube. (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6FJpEdj3E30 ).
The CSO noted that in January 2019, the Kano state Chairman of the APC was heard on different radio stations in the state saying they will win the forthcoming elections by all means, in his words “KO DA TSIYA KO DA TSIYA-TSIYA.”
The CSO similarly cited killings during political rallies with the casethat has to do with the supporters of Malam Salihu Sagir Takai, then a gubernatorial aspirant in PDP, alleged to have murdered a 70-year-old man at Ahmadu Bello way round about, when they (supporters of Takai) welcomed him from Malam Aminu Kano International Airport, in October.
It said (Malam Takai) was invited on Monday, October 15, 2018 to the Kano State Police Command for questioning (https://guardian.ng/news/police-summons-pdp-guber-aspirant-over-alleged-murder/ ).

In all the above mentioned incidences, the command neither invited the gubernatorial candidate of APC nor the state chairman of the party, for questioning as they did to Malam Takai.

The group urged the acting IGP to urgently address the issue to save the state from political crisis or violence in the fourth coming elections.
The CSO while congratulating the acting IGP which was said to have being appointed by the President on merit and a no nonsense officer should please take action.
