The Resource Center for Human Rights and Civic Education (CHRICED) has trained forty(40) media professionals and civil society organisations on how to monitor constituency projects.
Solacebase reports that the training is aimed at eradicating corruption with billions of naira channelled to constituency projects without much results.
The Executive Director of CHRICED, Dr Ibrahim Zikirullahi stated this at the training program which is one of the activities of the Organisation’s project towards realizing its goal of promoting community-driven Anti-corruption Initiatives on Saturday in Kano.
He said that the constituency project is one of the many government programs which could have helped spread development and give citizens a sense of belonging and benefits from public resources.
“However lack of inclusion and accountability and corruption is making that almost impossible. But with the right capacity and skills, the media with its enormous powers and the CSOs will better serve the society by holding duty bearers accountable with respect to the use of public resources”. He added.

Speaking at the event, the chairperson, National Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ) Kano, Comrade Bilkisu Ado Zango said that when there is corruption in the implementation of Constituency projects, women among others are the most affected with the lost opportunities.
” Writing women angle stories in relations to constituency projects and anti-corruption stories will promote inclusion and participation of women, bring out issues as they affect women and reduce corruption”.
A Senior Program Officer CHRICED, Mr Omoniyi Adewoye said that this is not the first time that the organization is carrying out a project like this, as a similar project was carried out in tracking the Universal Basic Education fund in Kaduna in 2017.
” The Organisation is committed to continuing beaming the searchlight on Constituency projects to ensure they are determined by participatory, timely delivery of planning, timely delivery and value for money for the betterment of the entire Nation.
