Dantata Foods, BUK partner to improve dryland farming

Dantata Foods and Allied Products on Friday signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Centre for Dryland Agriculture (CDA), Bayero University Kano, to reinvigorate dryland agriculture in the country.

The Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the company, Tajudeen Dantata, announced this at the signing ceremony of the MoU, on Friday in Kano.

Tajudeen Dantata said the agreement would encourage the production of drought-resistant seeds for farmers experiencing climatic challenges and harsh weather condition.

The Chairman said the collaboration would allow the two bodies to conduct research on crops and pass the information to the farmers, thus,  promoting scientific applications in farming.

“About 100, 000 farmers are expected to benefit from the studies, aimed at enhancing effective utilisation of agriculture and water resources, said Dantata

“Through the partnership,  we will ensure quality assurance in the production of inputs and other products in accordance with the international best standard.

“There are certain parameters of some products that are in control, which you will not be able to export to Europe and other Western countries,” he said.

In a remark, the Vice-Chancellor of the university, Prof. Yahuza Bello, described the MoU as a game-changer towards facilitating the application of modern farming techniques in the country.

Yahuza Bello noted that the centre was established to accelerate the sustainable transformation of agricultural technologies to boost crops and livestock production in sub-Saharan Africa.

The Vice-Chancellor added that the centre was also designed to enhance human capacity development to meet the demand for improved technologies needed to adapt to the changing environment.
