Don’t sell relief materials , Ganduje urges beneficiaries of palliative items
The Kano state government has launched the distribution of third-round no of palliative distribution to 50,000 households of poorest of the poor in the state.
Recall that the state government had already distributed the first and second rounds of 50,000 households each, which it targeted 300,000 households of the poorest of the poor in the state.
The chairman of the COVID-19 Fund Raising Committee of the state, Professor Muhammad Yahuza Bello, while flagging off the distribution on Tuesday in Kano, said the distribution is in line to meet the 300,000 households target in the state.
According to him, the government is up and doing to ensure it meets the targeted number of vulnerable people in a bid to cushion the effects of COVID-19 on them.
He said each of the 50,000 households will get a bag of 25kg of maize, a bag of 25kg of guinea corn, one bag of dawavita, one carton of spaghetti and a gallon of cooking oil.

He, however, disclosed that the N2, 000 given to the beneficiaries earlier would not be available in this round because the money at the committee’s disposal is insufficient to give it out.
“This time around, we are going to launch the distribution exercise in Karaye Local Government. That is why we have invited the representative of the emir of Karaye, District Head of Karaye and other traditional rulers to witness it.
” I would like to announce that in this phase, we will not be able to accompany the food items with the N2, 000 gift as we did in the first and second round.
“This is because the money at our disposal is insufficient to do that. During the previous rounds, the governor had donated N170 million, which we used to give the N2, 000 but now the money is not sufficient for that,” he said.
Prof. Bello, however, explained that the district heads would be rewarded with some money for their commitments in the distribution of the palliatives in their respective domains.
In a remark, the state governor, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje emphasized that his administration had placed all necessary arrangements to contain COVID-19 even before its outbreak in the state.
Represented by his deputy, Nasiru Yusuf Gawuna, Ganduje noted that the state government had launched three approaches to fighting COVID-19 in the state, namely protective, curative and palliative.
He stated that all the agendas are yielding fruits as the state is witnessing a drastic fall in the cases recorded in the state.
He urged the beneficiaries to judiciously utilize the relief items without wasting or selling it.
