Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has expressed dismay and condemned the alleged physical assault and abuse on the union Kano Zonal Coordinator, Comrade Prof. Abdulkadir Muhammad by Department of Security Services, Kano (DSS) operatives.
A statement jointly signed by Kano University of Science and Technology, Wudil (ASUU- KUST) Branch Chairperson and Secretary respectively, Comrade Muhammad Sani Gaya and Comrade Murtala Muhammad, said the ASUU Zonal Coordinator was assaulted on Wednesday, along Eastern ByePass, Hotoro, Kano.
‘’The incident occurred on his way to Federal University, Dutsin-Ma (FUDMA) in Katsina State to supervise the forthcoming ASUU FUDMA Branch elections, said the statement.

Solacebase reports that the Union, in the statement strongly condemned this unprofessionalism, barbaric and insensitivity exhibited by operatives of the DSS who are constitutionally obliged to protect lives and properties of citizens.’’
‘’ASUU-KUST has reported the matter to the appropriate agencies and is determined to employ all legal apparatus to ensure that the perpetrators are brought to book to serve as a deterrent to others.’’
Meanwhile, recently the Department of State Services (DSS) has invited Dr Obadiah Mailafiya, a former Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) for questioning again.
Yakubu Bawa, Mailafiya’s lawyer confirmed this to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Monday in Jos.
According to him, Mailafiya is expected to be at the Jos office of the DSS on Monday by 12 noon.
Bawa said the invitation was in connection with Mailafiya’s encounter with the DSS last week.
