Election Postponement: Observers Group Alledges Late Release Of Fund To INEC

An international election Observer Group, the Pan African Women Projects has alleged that the late release of fund to Independent National Electoral Commission INEC as a contributing factor that led to the postponement of the Presidential and National Assembly election by a week.

The group said money was released for the electoral body only last month as many of the commission contractors were just being paid.

Solacebase recalled that INEC postponed the Presidential and National Assembly elections scheduled for Feb.16 to Feb 23 due to logistics challenges among others.

The Pan African Women Projects consist of observers from South Africa and some domestic election monitors.

The Publicity Secretary of the group Mphoentle Keitseng made the claim on Tuesday night while addressing journalists in Kano.

According to her,“We have discovered  that money was only released for  INEC last month, hence the contractors were lately mobilized. That is why logistics was seriously affected.’’

‘’You can imagine that even most of the electoral kits for observers like the Jackets, Face Caps and accreditation cards were affected.’’

She appealed to security operatives to beef up security to forestall break down of law and other as there are fellers that suspected political thugs plans to create chaos in Kano and some parts of the country.

She urged the electorates to ensure they exercise their franchise on Saturday to elect leaders of their choice while calling for peaceful, rancour free and credible election.
