#EndSARS : Northern youth group calls for protest suspension, proposes emergency conference

Leaders of youth organizations in the North under the auspices of Alliance of Progressive Arewa Youth (APAY) have directed that all protests regarding #EndSARS and its accompanying problems associated with the region should be suspended forthwith and that it shall arrange a forum to brainstorm on major issues confronting the North and how to tackle them.

This was contained in a statement read during a press conference held at the Kano NUJ secretariat on Tuesday by the President APAY Abubakar Isah Bakori.

According to him, the alliance is alarmed at the speed at which the North is deteriorating in all indices of development adding that, protests will not save the situation for now.

” It is painful to note that with a few exceptions, most of the governors who held forte as governors across the states in the North since 1999 to date contributed immensely to the sorry state of affairs of these states. Most of them engage in building political empires to feather their nest instead of developing their states. By so doing, they created divisions, tensions and suspicion that snowballed into two decades of intermittent communal clashes that have ethnic and religious undertones in states as such we have resolved to hold a holistic conference that will address these issues but not protest,” he said.

He added that, the emergency conference shall be tagged as Emergency Northern Conference with the theme: “Who Will Speak for the North?” Adding that the name of the personality to chair the conference will be announced later.

” We have also resolved that any governor that refuses to attend the conference without any justification will be tagged enemy of the North and its progress, and his future political opportunity blocked,” he revealed.
