Fake Drugs: Kano intercepts 20 cartons , arrests suspect
Kano State Private Health Institutions Management Agency (PHIMA), on Monday, intercepted cartons of suspected fake medical consumables.
Executive Secretary of the Agency, Dr Usman Tijjani Aliyu announced this while displaying some of the items confiscated on Monday in Kano.
He said the items consist of Eusol solution, Gentian violet and Tincture of iodine meant for onward transportation to Gombe state.
Dr Usman Tijjani Aliyu said the items were claimed to be manufactured in Anambra state but evidence strongly suggests that they are being produced in Kano.
‘’The suspect was operating in Sabo Geri quarters, Fagge local government area and would pack the products without NAFDAC registration number nor that of the Standard Organisation of Nigeria for onward transportation to Gombe and other parts of the northeast,’’ said Dr. Usman Aliyu.

‘’So based on information made available to us, we were able to put up our surveillance and that was how we arrested him with the suspected fake drugs on Monday’’
He explained that interception of the items was made possible with the collaboration of the state Primary Health Care Management Board (PHCMB).
The Executive Secretary noted that the items have been handed over to the State Taskforce on Fake, counterfeit and unwholesome products of the Ministry of Health for further investigations and action.
