The Federal Government on Wednesday temporarily lifted the ban on two humanitarian organisations operating in the northeast, Mercy Corps and Action Against Hunger.

Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development, Sadiya Farouq, broke the news at a briefing Wednesday in Abuja.

The Nigeria Army’s Theatre Command of Operation Lafiya Dole had shut down the AAH office in Maiduguri on September 18 and declared the organisation as “persona non grata.”

The military, in a statement released by its Deputy Director, Army Public Relations, Col Ado Isa, had noted that the AAH was closed for aiding Boko Haram terrorists by supplying them food and drugs despite warnings from the Theatre.

The minister said that the federal government was concerned about counter-terrorism efforts in the country.

She said that all measures must be in place to support the efforts of the government to end terrorism in the northeast.

“The suspension of the two international Humanitarian organisations – Mercy Corps and Action Against Hunger is temporarily lifted.

“The concerns and recommendations of the Board of Inquiry will continue to receive attention and scrutiny to address the issues raised and comply,” she said.
