FG reiterates commitment to ensure LGs financial autonomy to enhance grassroots dev.

The federal government has reiterated commitment to collaborate with stakeholders, NGOs in the country to ensure local governments’ autonomy so as to free them from the control of state governors, describing the move as necessary for grassroots development.

Special Assistant on Political Affairs to the president, Alhaji Abdurrahman Baffa Yola stated this on Monday in Kano, during a meeting with stakeholders on Strengthening  Financial Autonomy of the legislature, Judiciary, and the local government authorities.

The Theme of the meeting was, unveiling CoDEN in Kano state was organization by Consortium for Democratic Essence in Nigeria (CoDEN ).

Baffa Yola told the participants that since May 2020, when President  Muhammadu Buhari, signed into law an Executive Order to grant financial autonomy to the legislature and the judiciary across the 36 states of the country, efforts are been geared towards the actualization of the idea.

He assured that the Federal government is ready to join hands with NGOs to achieve this by abolishing state and local governments joint accounts “through constitutional means.

On his part the convener of the Movement, Comrade Abdallahi Y Sule said autonomy does not translate to more power to either of the arms but would allow lawmakers and Judges across the country to discharge their duties more effectively and without fear or favour.
