FG To Attach Promotion In Immigration Service To Professional Qualifications

1

The Federal Government has said promotion in the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) will be tied to professional qualifications henceforth rather than years in the service.

The Minister of Interior, Abdulrahman Dambazau disclosed this at the presentation of curriculum and training manuals for training institutions of the NIS at the Service headquarters on Wednesday.

“We will tie promotion to every course for every rank,” he said. “There is a course that is expected that you go through for you to qualify for that rank.”

“For progression, training is very important. It is very clear in the immigration rules. There is need for us to give that motivation. It gives you room to work hard.”

Speaking on the new curriculum, he said it was important for the service to upgrade itself in line with recent developments in the world.

“Things change from time to time and I do not expect them (NIS) to be static. They must go along with the changes in the Society and globally,” he said.

On his part, the Comptroller General of Immigration, Muhammad Babandede said the NIS was having its first curriculum since its establishment.

He noted that the initiative will produce well trained and better equipped officers and men who will further reposition the NIS.
