FG to flag off Funtua Free Trade Zone soon – NEPZA

Nigeria Export Processing Zones Authority (NEPZA), has assured that the Funtua Free Trade Zone will soon be flagged off.

NEPZA Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Prof. Adesoji Adesugba, made the remark when Alhaji Usman Bello Kankara, the District Head of Ketare in Kankara local government area of Katsina State paid him a courtesy visit last week in Abuja.

Solacebase reports that Prof. Adesugba said such industrial hubs could gradually quash the widespread insecurity across the country.

He re-emphasized the Federal Government commitment to using the Free Trade Zone Scheme to reduce high unemployment indices in the country.

This is contained in a statement issued by Martins Odeh, Corporate Communications, NEPZA and made available to newsmen.

“President Muhammadu Buhari is quietly but diligently repositioning the country’s free trade zone scheme for it to contribute greatly to both our National Domestic Product and Gross Domestic Product respectively,’’ the NEPZA boss said in the statement.

The statement said he used the occasion to inform the Kanwan Katsina on the plans to flag-off the Funtua Free Trade Zone dedicated to the production of cotton and fabrics for local consumption and exportation.

According to him when the zone is operational, it will leverage on the cotton belt of the North West to commence active production of varieties of fabrics in commercial quantities.

He, therefore, thanked the President again for approving the Funtau free trade zone as this will go a long way to stabilize the state and its environs.

Earlier, the Kanwan Katsina District head of Ketare Alhaji Usman Bello KAnkara expressed delight on Adesugba’s appointment as the Managing Director of NEPZA, describing him as a “square peg in a square hole.

He, therefore, said people of Katsina are eagerly waiting for the commissioning of the Funtua free trade zone, which according to him, will no small measure boost business structure, commerce, production, employment and income for our people of the area.

The royal father who is 1982 coursemate of the NEPZA Chief Executive in the Nigeria customs service urged him to bring his wealth of experience from the customs to reposition NEPZA to achieve its mandate.

The Managing Director later presented a souvenir to the visiting Kanwan Katsina  Alhaji Usman Bello Kankara.
