2023: Forum unveils 10 year strategic development plan for political candidates in Kano/Jigawa states for adoption

* Cautions governorship candidates against violence, personal attack in Kano

The Kano/Jigawa Professionals Forum, KJPF, has unveiled a 10 year strategic development document to propel social, economic growth and human development in Kano and Jigawa states.

Besides, the forum cautioned governorship candidates and others seeking various elective positions across political parties against turning their campaigns to battle ground and inflicting violence in the state.

Solacebase reports that the former minister of National Planning and chairman of the forum, Dr. Shamsuddeen Usman unveiled the document at a colloquium organized to set developmental agenda for the political candidates ahead of 2023 general elections.

The former minister explained that the forum realized that several states in the country including Kano and Jigawa, lack provision for robust and sustainable development agenda and road map that could guide successive government.

Dr. Shamsuddeen said the document which is the product of empirical research and finding by eminent professionals and intellectuals across various fields of human endeavor focus on strengthening institutions and political agenda of government.

The chairman who cited reference of 25 years development agenda of Lagos State which recently upgraded to 50 years development projection, disclosed that KJPF mission aimed to build similar but peculiar document to guide the policy makers irrespective of political ideology.

He said the document dissected challenges and provide workable solutions in the areas of health, education, Infrastructure, technology, legal and governance work stream, with optimism that the document would be adopted.

” Our intention is to see the candidates of the political parties irrespective of who wins to admit the documents, solutions and recommendations and perhaps align them with the agenda to develop our states. Ours is to see peaceful and develop Kano and Jigawa states irrespective of who wins.

“Although ours is to recommend but implementation remains with the politicians but we want to assure that the forum is also ready to work with any candidate that wins to actual the documents for sustainable development of our states.

” We have seen what happened in Lagos where 25 years development agenda was designed and later upgraded to 50 years. Today, Lagos is a leading example of most developed city in Nigeria and faster one in Africa. We wonder why not Kano, why can’t we set developmental agenda for our leaders to build upon. Kano belong to all and we must contribute our efforts in return”.

Dr. Shamsuddeen however cautioned the political parties and their candidates against eliciting characters that would turn Kano to another battle ground of violence during their campaigns.

He said what the state most required at this particular point is campaign of issues and foundations that would address challenges in economic, agriculture, health, Infrastructure, technology and human development. He urged the candidates seeking political appointments to consider development of Kano before their personal interest.

Kano deputy Governor and governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress APC, Nasiru Yusuf Gawuna pledged to adopt the recommendations of the strategic development plan in the APC policy frame work if voted to power.

Gawuna noted that candidates seeking elective posts irrespective of their parties most consider the interest of Kano first before inordinate interest. He applauded the dedication of the professional group for taken the path of growth.

Governorship candidate of New Nigeria Peoples Party NNPP in the state, Abba Kabir Yusuf lamented poor state of education, health and indiscriminate dispose of public property. He also pledged to work with the forum to actualize the development plan.

Other governorship candidates at the event include Bala Mohammad Gwagwarwa, SDP Governorship candidate; PDP governorship running mate, Yusuf Bello Danbatta; PRP Governorship candidate, Salihu Tanko Yakasai and Mohammad Falala governorship running of Labor Party.
