IWD: Foundation conducts awareness for female students on self-reliance
The Widi-Jalo Foundation has conducted an awareness campaign targeting female students in Kano State, emphasizing self-reliance.
Speaking at the event on Friday in Kano, Bilkisu Hamisu Mai Iyali, the foundation’s coordinator, highlighted the significance of this initiative as part of the foundation’s activities to celebrate International Women’s Day 2024.
“The primary objective of the campaign is to raise awareness among these female students about the importance of self-reliance and to discourage dependence on others. By bringing together students and influential women from our society, we aim to inspire the next generation through their stories and experiences.”
“This year’s theme, “Inspiring Inclusion of Young Females in the Economic System,” resonates strongly with our mission. We have engaged approximately forty students from different schools across Kano State, fostering a sense of empowerment and encouraging them to explore entrepreneurial opportunities.”
Hajiya Hannatu Tijjani Haruna, CEO of Seven Thirty Restaurant, shared valuable advice with the students.
She emphasized that waiting until graduation to start a business is unnecessary. Instead, she encouraged them to begin even while still in school.
“Don’t limit yourself. Take the initiative to start your own venture at any level.”

Furthermore, Hajiya Hannatu emphasized the importance of financial independence. “Don’t rely solely on anyone, including boyfriends,” she said.
“Entrepreneurship is a path to self-sufficiency. My personal journey exemplifies this, I started my restaurant from scratch fifteen years ago, and now expanded its operations beyond Nigeria.”
“Even if you pursue a career in civil service after university, always have a second source of income. Our degrees should not hinder us from venturing into business. My success story serves as a testament to the resilience and potential of women entrepreneurs.”

“Let us celebrate International Women’s Day by empowering young females to chart their own paths and contribute to a thriving economic system.”
In her remark, Malam Hadiza, Hisbah commander, Dala Local government area, emphasized the critical role parents play in shaping their children’s lives.
“Take great care in raising your children, following the teachings of Islam. Remember that God will hold you accountable for how you nurture and guide them.”

“As parents, we must provide not only physical care but also emotional and moral guidance. By instilling values of empathy, respect, and responsibility, we empower our children to navigate the world with wisdom and resilience.”
“So, let us be vigilant guardians, fostering an environment of love, discipline, and understanding. Our children’s future depends on the seeds we sow today.”
