Kano state governor Dr Abdullahi Umar Ganduje has said that members of the State Executive Council, would soon be constituted, assuring people that his administration would continue with the good work he started in his first tenure in office. 

Commending Permanent Secretaries of different ministries in the state, he said though the state is yet to have constituted Executive Council in place, the Permanent Secretaries were able to come up with, through teamwork, the proposed document, that would be brainstorm upon on Sunday before final presentation to the State House of Assembly.

“We will very soon have Commissioners in place. So that we continue fine-tuning our policies, programmes and projects. Your work as public servants on this document, clearly, buttresses a point that civil service is the bedrock of any government,” he appreciates.

A statement issued by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Abba Anwar said Ganduje made the disclosure at a meeting with the Permanent  Secretaries of all the ministries on Sunday, at the Governor’s office in Kano.

It said the meeting was to deliberate on the proposed budget document, which is reaching its final stage, in the budget process.

 It said the governor added that the cardinal point of the budget was human development. Which, he described as very vital in the overall development of the state, adding that, “We are very much concerned of all the sectors and sub-sectors in the state. And we will try and complete so many uncompleted projects.”

Talking of free and compulsory primary and post-primary  education, the governor said, when he talks of free, he means “free” so also compulsory, he means “compulsory.” 

“When we talk of free we are at the same time, being concerned about the learning environment, teaching and learning materials, among other things. We are grateful to Allah that we got improvement in the pupils’ enrolment since when we started implementing this policy of free and compulsory education,” he said.

He further explains that “When we talk of compulsory, we are at the same time saying that there are process and procedures to be followed to achieve that particular aspect. When we talk of the health care delivery system, we are referring to an improved health care system. By this we mean, the provision of health facilities, we also mean staff development, consumables and so on and so forth.”

On Emirates, he reminded that they are simply developmental headquarters of their Districts. “Nothing more than this,” he stated.

Adding that, “This is what we also mean by human and overall development. We are penetrating people at the grassroots through these Emirates. Ours is to improve community participation in such critical and important  sectors like security, health, education, agriculture etc.”

The statement added that the State Head of Service, Dr Kabiru Shehu, after commending the governor for the infrastructural development in the state, assured that all the state civil service would continue to give their helping hand towards further developing the state and the people generally.
