Coalition for the right of children has petition the Kano State House of Assembly against Governor Abdullahi Ganduje and the state government over an alleged abuse of primary school children, abuse of office and gross misconduct.
The petition dated and signed by Barrister Dahir Ibrahim was forwarded to the House through a group of Lawyers under Tahir Chambers in Kano , complained about the alleged use of school children on the 25 October 2018 to carry placards and protest in support of Governor Abdullahi Ganduje against the publisher of an online newspaper Jaafar Jaafar over the $5m bribery allegation against the governor.
The Coalition that consist of professionals, Academia, student bodies, clerics and community based organization said some selected underage primary school children comprising of mostly Gyadi Gyadi Primary school, Unguwa Uku primary school, Sallari primary school and some from Kano Municipal primary school were paraded outside Audu Bako secretariat against their wish and without the consent of their parents.
The body said that despite the sensitivity and the political nature of the action the security and safety of the children were not considered before been drafted to participate in the protest.
“It is a clear deprivation of the children’s rights to education as the protest was carried out during school period, it is a forced labor, dignity of a person and breach of trust of the parents by the schools management, “said the petition.
The Coalition therefore calls for through investigation of the alleged gross misconduct and remedy the situation in line with the United Nations Charter on the Rights of the Child and African Union Charter on the Rights and Welfare of the Child.
