GandujeGate : Gov Fails To Appear Before Kano Assembly Probe Panel

Kano State Governor, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje has failed to appear before the seven-man probe panel investigating the $5m bribery allegation levelled against him.

But rather the governor represented  by his Commissioner for Information, Comrade Muhammad Garba.

In a letter read before Kano state House of Assembly Adhoc committee, governor Ganduje said, the alleged video clips was orchestrated to tarnish his image and reputation ahead of the 2019 general election.

An online newspaper, Daily Nigerian, had alleged that  Ganduje received kickbacks amounting to five million dollars from contractors that work for the state government.

The Publisher of the paper, Jaafar Jaafar had appeared before the panel last Thursday to reiterate the allegation, explaining how a contractor working for the Kano State government had agreed to attach cameras to his kaftan in order to capture the videos.

Ganduje in the document urged the public  to ignore the allegations as it never happened.

“Such untrue publications was done to the Emir of Kano, Malam Muhammad Sanusi II, and also to the former Governor, Malam Ibrahim Shekarau,” said Ganduje in the document.

Responding, the Chairman of the Committee Baffa Babba Dan Agundi, said although, the letter of invitation to the governor require him to appear in person or send a representative as that cannot stop the credibility of the exercise.

The Committee then adjourned sitting till next Tuesday to evaluate alleged video clips in the presence of representatives of the both parties with forensic experts will give final analyses to its credibility
