1

Transparency International Nigeria on Tuesday demanded an independent investigation into the $5 Million bribery allegation hanging on Kano state governor , Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje.

The international body known for its aversion for corruption says an independent probe of the allegation will support and strengthen the fight against corruption which is one of the tripod the APC government stands on.

The Head of Transparency International Nigeria, Auwal Musa Rafsanjani stated this in an interview with Solacebase in Abuja on Tuesday.

He said the investigative committee set up by the state house of assembly is a smokescreen as the probe will not be transparent.

Auwal Musa Rafsanjani urged Governor Abdullahi Ganduje to step aside so that proper investigation can be conducted to protect the exalted position of the governor and the people of the state.

“There is no how he can be a judge in his own case as the lawmakers are people that cannot look up to him and say the truth.”

“Its sad that the $5m video bribery allegation by the Daily Nigeria  is almost being politicize in the state without evaluation of the video by experts and the weight of the allegation,” said Rafsanjani.

The Transparency boss said “We are neither accusing the governor of the crime or otherwise but concern with the fight against corruption, hence an independent body consisting of people with high track record of honesty , apolitical, anti graft agency like EFCC, ICPC, retired high court judge and experts on ICT.”

He added that Abdullahi Umar Ganduje with the tittle of Khadimu Islam should be ready to protect that tittle by subjecting himself to independent probe and stepping aside for transparency as Islam abhors corruption.

Solacebase recalled that Kano State governor, Abdullahi Ganduje, had appeared in a trove of video clips receiving bribe, amounting to about $5million from contractors in the state.

According to DAILY NIGERIAN multiple contractors who spoke with the online newspaper  on the condition of anonymity said the governor personally receives from 15 to 25 percent kickbacks for every project executed in the state.

The sting operation to capture the governor on camera began two years ago when one of the contractors agreed with DAILY NIGERIAN request to plant spy camera on his kaftan lapel while offering the bribe.
