Speaking at the event in Kano on Wednesday, the Chairperson, Mrs. Christiana Oluranti-Danladi, emphasized the importance of organising the sensitization programme, saying “the primary goal was to discourage drug use among girls and women.”
According to her the event was held in collaboration with the National Museum Gidan Makama Kano.

Mrs. Oluranti-Danladi highlighted the alarming impact of drug abuse among women. She expressed concern about the potential consequences for society if females continue to engage in drug use.
“As mothers and caregivers, women play a crucial role in shaping the next generation. If they fall into drug abuse, it disrupts the stability of our households.”
The focus was particularly on girls and women, whom were invited to the event. The aim was to educate them about the dangers of drug abuse and discourage their involvement in such harmful practices.”
In her remark, Rose Madaki, the Curator of the National Museum Gidan Makama Kano, echoed these concerns.

She emphasised that the increasing number of women involved in drug abuse is deeply troubling. “According to research, drug abuse has a more detrimental impact on females than on men. Additionally, men are more likely to quit using drugs compared to women.”
Madaki stressed the urgency of raising awareness about the risks associated with drug use among women.
“It is our collective responsibility to sensitize younger generations and provide guidance to those already caught in the cycle of drug abuse, helping them find a way to stop.”
“And as parents, we have a responsibility to keep an eye on our children: who their friends are, where they go, and even when we notice any differences in their behavior. We should make every effort to correct and address these issues.”
