ICPC Cautions Kano Council Chairmen, Secretaries on Transparency, Accountability

Independent Corrupt Practices and Other related offences Commission (ICPC) on Monday cautioned local government Chairmen in Kano on transparency and accounting in the discharge of their responsibility.

ICPC commissioner in Kano, Zayanu Almu-DanMusa gave the warning at a four-day Anti-Corruption Workshop 2020, organised for elected and appointed officials of the  44 local councils of the state.

Zayanu who reminded the council chairmen, vice and secretaries the primary role of dispensing on public resources with honesty and integrity, to engender good governance

The ICPC boss who reiterated the commission’s cardinal responsibility of entrenching transparency and public accountability stressed that ICPC is fully tracking project implementation across the 44 council areas.

Zayanu noted that the commission is monitoring administrative process and implementation of constituency projects just as he warned against abuse and misappropriation of public wealth.

He said the workshop organized by the commission in collaboration with the state ministry of local government, was designed to instil a culture of transparency and purge the local administrators of corrupt practices.

” ICPC plays a vital role in local government administration due to their closeness to the grass root. The intention was to create awareness on accuse of processes and obstruction of public governance.

” ICPC has developed a series of strategies to guide public office holders against misappropriation of public resources. ICPC will not condone any act of corrupt practices. We are also monitoring constituency projects in Kano.

” We are monitoring five constituency projects in some senatorial areas in collaboration with the office of surveyor-general and civil society organizations.

” We observed some equipment were not supplied and we are working with those concern and they promised to restore the missing facilities”.

The State Commissioner for local government in Kano, Murtala Sule Garo said the state government’s zero tolerance to corruption prompted the collaboration with ICPC on the workshop.

Represented by the permanent secretary at the ministry, Alh. Sule Ado Minjibir, the Commissioner stressed the commitment of Ganduje led administration to ensure good governance and social wellbeing at the grass root.

He added that the council administrators are being charged to understand their roles and primary responsibility.
