ICPC to prosecute erring contractors handling constituency projects in Kano

The Independent Corrupt Practices and other related offences Commission (ICPC) has said that contractors who defaulted in handling constituency projects for lawmakers in Kano State would be prosecuted.

The Chief Assistant Superintendent, ICPC Kano Office, Bukar Galadima stated this while speaking to Solacebase on Saturday during a constituency and executive projects tracking exercise at Zogarawa primary school in Dawakin Kudu local government, sponsored by Senator representing  Kano central.

Solacebase reports that Kano ICPC team leader, Galadima said majority of the constituency projects sponsored by Senator representing Kano central were said to have been found with defects and not up to specification according to the contract terms.

‘’We would prosecute all the contractors as soon as we conclude our Investigations’’, Galadima said.

‘’All the primary schools project under the constituency which were said to have been completed in 2020 were found to be shoddy jobs, most with leaking roofs, faded paintings as well as without furniture.’’

It would be recalled that recently ICPC visited some of the constituency projects in the Kano central senatorial zone in some local government areas that include, Warawa, Dawakin Kudu, Tarauni, Kano Municipal, and  Dala.

According to the team leader, the ongoing tracking of constituency projects by the Commission in Kano and other states of the Federation is not to witch-hunt any politicians or anyone, but to ensure that the people have value for money spent on projects as they are taxpayers fund.

He said tracking the projects is an important assignment for ICPC as the country has spent billions of naira since the year 2000, without commensurate development at the grassroots level.
