INEC Declares Buhari Winner Of Presidential Election

Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Prof.  Mahmood Yakubu,  on Wednesday declared President Muhammadu Buhari winner of Saturday’s presidential election.

Muhammadu Buhari of the APC polled 15,191,847 votes to defeat his closest rival, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party in the presidential poll conducted on February 23.

Atiku scored 11,262,978 to lose the election with a margin of 3,928,869 votes.

Prof. Yakubu announced that a certificate of return will be issued to Buhari and Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo at the international Conference Center (ICC).

However, Atiku’s Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has rejected the result, citing irregularities as Buhari won in 19 states, while Atiku emerged victorious in 17 states and the federal capital territory (FCT).
