INEC Denying Us Access To Kano Election Materials Despite Court Order-PDP Guber Candidate

The People’s Democratic Party PDP in Kano has expressed dissatisfaction over the Independent National Electoral Commission’s non-compliance with court order for it to access of March 23rd governorship election materials.

Solacebase had earlier reported that, the party had filed a petition before Kano Governorship Tribunal, requesting that the court orders INEC to release the photocopies of March 23rd election materials for assessment.

While briefing newsmen at INEC’s headquarters on Monday, the gubernatorial candidate of the party, Abba Kabiru-Yusuf, complained that the Independent National Electoral Commission INEC has refused to cooperate with the party, despite court order.

He said he was in the INEC office to appeal to them to make available all the necessary documents to the PDP lawyers in line with Tribunal’s directives.

“We are confused, we don’t know why they are running away from giving us what is legitimately approved by honourable Tribunal.

“We don’t know whether INEC is conniving with the powers that be to deny us this right, so that they could perfect the documents and amend all the defects and flaws they did during the election,” Mr Kabir-Yusuf alleged.

According to him, the party has only made photocopy of the voters’ register of one local government out of the 44 local government areas in the state.

“From the time we secure the order 2 months ago, we were only able to access voters register of one local government.

“Although we have over one million documents to photocopy, INEC has assigned only 2 staff for certification of the photocopy document,” Mr Kabir-Yusuf said.

On his part, Counsel to PDP Bashir Tudunwuzirci noted that the delay has lingered for over 60 days and if it persists, the party would be forced to return to the tribunal for further actions
