Renowned Islamic Cleric urges Gov Yusuf to appoint Tik Toker, Murja Kunya as aide on social media

A renowned Islamic Cleric, Sheihk Ibrahim Khaleel has urged Kano State governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf to appoint controversial Tik Toker, Murja Ibrahim Kunya as Senior Special Assistant on Social Media.

Sheikh Khalil made the call on Sunday on a Freedom Radio Ramadan Tafsir program.

Recently, a Kano Shari’ah Court presided by Nura Yusuf Ahmad has directed that the TikToker, Murja Ibrahim Kunya, should undergo a psychiatric evaluation at a government hospital to ascertain her mental status.

The judge noted that during her previous appearance in court, she seemed to not be in a sound state of mind due to suspected drug influence.

The State Hisbah board had on February 13 arrested Kunya, 26, and arraigned her before a Shari’a Court after accusing her of constituting public nuisance, indecency, and attempt to recruit young girls into prostitution.

Also, the board said her arrest follows a surge in complaints from community members, who expressed concerns over the perceived social media influencer’s negative influence on the youths.

There was public outcry in the state few days after her remand in prison custody when news broke that Murja was released from detention on the orders of the court, before the adjourned date for her bail application.

However, the State Government was accused of being complicit in her release which led to a lot of controversy.

Although the state government in a statement by the Commissioner for Information, Baba Halilu Dantiye, denied any involvement in her case.

However, on Sunday, Sheikh Khalil advised the state government to appoint her as the governor’s aide on social media to convert her accused negative influence on the youth to the positive side on how to make money through the use of social media.

The cleric a former governorship candidate of the Africa Development Congress (ADC) in 2023 and  Chairman, Kano State Council of Ulama noted that the TikToker can be paired with a well-known social media suave that is versatile on how to make money on social media for the benefit of youths in the state and beyond.

‘’With my understanding of the present generation and the social media phenomenon, the government can use her as an influencer from the negative part to the positive side for many of the youths to be gainfully employed and even generate legal revenue for the state, Ibrahim Khaleel emphasised.
