JUST IN: Bandits kill 8, injure 4, abduct dozens in Niger State

Bandits on Wednesday killed 8 persons, injured 4 and abducted dozens in Niger State.

A resident of Shadadi community in the Mariga local government area of the State said the gunmen attack led to many of the residents taking refuge presently in neighbouring areas like Kontagora.

Solacebase reports that last month, Niger State Gov. Sani Bello raised an alarm that over 3,000 residents of Shiroro and Munya local governments have been displaced by Boko Haram terrorists who hoisted their flag and took over the communities.

Meanwhile, the state is witnessing several attacks from bandits with about 10 local government areas out of 25 under siege by bandits that include Shiroro, Munya, Kagara, Rafi, Mashegu and of recent Paiko, among others.

According to the BBC Hausa Service, some of the residents said those abducted by the gunmen are over 100, although the state government denied the figure.

However, confirming the development, the state Commissioner for Information, Alhaji Sani Idris, said the government is trying to evaluate the situation to know the actual number of people abducted.

Although he denied the figure of over 100 quoted by the residents saying the government is collaborating with the security agents to calm the situation.
