JUST IN: Court stops EFCC from arresting Kwankwaso

A Kano High Court has granted an order stopping the Economic Financial and Crimes Commission (EFCC) from arresting Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso and 6 others.

The presiding judge, Justice Yusuf Ubale Muhammad restrained the EFCC which is the sole respondent in the suit, either by itself, agents or cronies from arresting, harassing detaining, intimidating, inviting or in any way infringing on the Fundamental Rights of the applicants pending on the hearing and determination of the motion on notice already filed.

The judge granted the order upon reading the motion exparte dated and filed on June 5, 2024.

“It further ordered that both the interim order granted, the motion on notice and all other processes in this suit shall be served on the respondent timeously and before the adjourned date,” the judge held.

The case is adjourned to June 24, 2024 for hearing of the motion on notice.

It could be recalled that the EFCC is investigating the former presidential candidate of NNPP over alleged diversion of campaign funds amounting to N2.5 billion naira.

The applicants in the suit are the NNPP, Dr Ajuji Ahmed, Dipo Olayanku, Ahmed Balewa, Chief Clement Anele, Lady Folshade Aliu, Eng. Buba Galadima and Sen. Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso.
