JUST IN : Gov Bello receives freed 90 Islamiyya students at Govt House

Niger State Governor, Abubakar Sani Bello has officially received 90 children (Islamiyya children) abducted from Tegina community in Rafi local government area of the state.

The governor said one of the children died while in captivity and two other persons earlier abducted were also released.

Solacebase reports that the abducted Islamiyya children were released on Thursday night after sources said over N60m was paid and a provision of brand new seven motorcycles to the bandits.

Meanwhile, in May about 200 students of an Islamiyya school located at Tegina in Rafi Local Government Area of Niger State have been abducted.

A person was shot dead while another lays critically injured after gunmen carried out the abduction operation at about 4:30 pm on Sunday.

A resident of the area Zayyad Mohammed confirmed the incident to Channels Television via telephone.

Although details of the attack are sketchy, Mohammed says the Salihu Tanko Islamiyya school where the incident took place, was built by a retired Immigration Officer.

He said this Islamiyya school is not the usual Sangaya boarding Islamic citadel, but a conventional one where parents send their children on a daily basis for the purpose of acquiring Islamic education.
