JUST IN: Makinde shuts Shasha market indefinite, as traders clash claims life
The Oyo State Government on Saturday imposed a 24-hour curfew and ordered the immediate closure of the Shasha market in Akinyele Local Government Area of Ibadan following the skirmishes in the area on Friday.
Solacebase reports that a person was confirmed dead on Friday as a result of a misunderstanding between a cobbler and a cart pusher in Shasha market area in Ibadan, Oyo State.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) gathered that the clash erupted on Thursday but reached its peak on Friday when the cobbler was confirmed dead as a result of the injury sustained during the clash.
An eyewitness told NAN that the cart pusher, from the northern part of the country, stabbed the cobbler, a Yoruba, with a knife as a result of a misunderstanding between the two.
The witness said that the cobbler was rushed to the hospital for treatment and later confirmed dead on Friday.
He said that the situation sparked trouble as traders and some other residents of the area stormed the Shasa market on Friday, to retaliate the death of their colleague.

When NAN visited the area, it was discovered that some shops and houses were burnt while the market was deserted.
A statement signed by Mr. Taiwo Adisa, Chief Press Secretary to Governor Seyi Makinde, indicated that the governor gave the order so as to forestall breakdown of law and order in the area.
The closure of the market is indefinite.
According to the statement, the curfew, which covered Shasha and the market area, is to run from 6 pm to 7 am.
The statement warned residents of the area to go about their legitimate businesses peacefully, stating that anyone caught perpetrating violence would face the wrath of the law.
It read, “His Excellency, Governor Seyi Makinde has directed the immediate closure of Shasha market indefinitely following reports of a breach of peace in the area.
