Kano Anti-Graft Agency Summons Rice Processors Over Price Hike

Kano State Public Complaints and Anti-corruption Commission on Friday summoned Rice Processsors Association of Nigeria (RIPAN) in the state over hike in the price of their product.

The Commission in a letter signed by its Chairman Muhuyi Magaji Rimigado and addressed to the association Chairman directed the leadership of the association to be at its headquarters on Saturday, May 9^th by 11.00 am for a meeting.

The Commission said this is in compliance with the directive of the governor in accordance with Section 11 of the Kano State Public Health (Infectious Diseases) Regulations 2020 and by virtues of Section 39 of the Kano State Public Complaints and Anti-corruption Commission Law 2008 (as amended) this Commission embarked on a search and seizure of hoarded food commodities in Kano State.

Solacebase reports that the commission and major marketers in the state signed an agreement on May 5^th to desist from hoarding, sales of food items at agreed prices and unsealing of their warehouses by the commission.

Hence over the last few days, the commission has been raiding supermarkets not complying with agreed prices of food items that include Sugar, Spaghetti, Macaroni and Flour among others.

The letter said in line with this, a meeting is arranged with Rice processors in the state in order to identify individual roles in the artificial inflation of rice in the state.

The letter reads,‘’ Based on the above and pursuant to the provision of Section 32 of the Commission’s enabling Law 2008 (as amended) I will like to invite you and all your members for this crucial meetings as scheduled‘’.

The letter emphasized that Chief Executive officers (CEO’S) of the Rice Processing Mills should endeavour to attend in person.
