Kano assembly holds retreat on disease control bill

The Kano State House of Assembly and Ministry of Health, in collaboration with developmental partners, have concluded a three-day retreat on the Kano Center for Disease Control (KNCDC) bill at Bafra Hotel in Kaduna state. 

According to a statement by Kamaluddeen Sani Shawai, spokesperson of the speaker, Rt Hon Jibrin Ismail Falgore, on Saturday, the retreat was to reaffirm the lawmakers’ commitment to the KNCDC bill and enhance disease control measures across the state. 

The retreat featured the Hon. Commissioner of Health, Dr Abubakar Labaran Yusuf, Deputy Speaker of the House of Assembly, Rt Hon Muhd Bello Butu-Butu, Majority Leader Hon. Lawan Hussain, Sheikh Aminu Ibrahim Daurawa, former commander of Hisba, Hon. Musa Ali Kachako, who sponsored the pre-marital screening bill, members of the assembly, Director General Kano SACA, Coordinator KNCDC, and developmental partners such as NCDC, RTSL, FCDO-lafiya, LISDEL, eHealth Africa, SFH, GHAI, GGHN, UNICEF, BUK/AKTH, and other resource persons.

The speaker commended the developmental partners for supporting the assembly and also appreciated his colleagues and other participants for their commitment and endurance towards making valuable contributions.

“To illustrate the commitment of the Kano State House of Assembly to the KNCDC bill and KSACA bills, Falgore said the 3-day retreat has fulfilled its purposes. He assured the participants and the good people of Kano State that as legislators, they would ensure the passing of those bills based on professional inputs during legislative proceedings,” the statement read.
