Kano Govt Queries Bichi Zonal Primary Health Care Centers Over Maternal and Perinatal Death

Kano state government has ordered the Primary Health Care Management Board to query Bichi Primary Health Care Coordinator and the entire primary health centers under the Bichi zone over failure to improve on Maternal and Perinatal Death.

The Permanent Secretary Ministry of Health Usman Bala Mohammad gave the order at a two-day Maternal and Perinatal Death Surveillance and Response Bi-Annual review meeting holding in Kaduna state.

Although he gave an exception of the query to the Danzabuwa model primary health center.

A statement by the ministry Public Relations Officer, Ismail Garba Gwammaja on Sunday forward to Solacebase said the Permanent Secretary issued the query order expressing surprise that despite facilities provided the data presented by the zone indicated the Maternal and Perinatal Death is not improving.

He reiterates the state government’s commitment to accord special attention to maternal care and Child health in view of their sensitivity.

The Permanent Secretary charged the participants and other health caregivers to adhere to ethics of the profession and moral decorum as a guiding principle in all their activities and dealings towards actualizing the standard of the medical profession and professionalism.

Usman Bala Mohammad noted with all seriousness that, at the ministry level and  Maternal and Perinatal Death Surveillance and Response MPDSR Committee supervision would be intensified with a view to providing efficient and effective service delivery.

Speaking at the meeting the National President-elect Society of Gynecologist and Obstetrics of Nigeria (SOGON) Dr. Habibu Sadauki highlighted the needs to collaborate with Pediatric Association of Nigeria (PAN) to conduct special training for health workers on how best to avert the rampant cases of maternal and perinatal death in the state.

Others who spoke at the occasion were the Kano Chairman, Nigeria MedicalAassociation (NMA) Dr. Sunusi Bala, Prof. Isa Abubakar Sadik AKTH/BUK and Prof. Jamilu Tukur AKTH/BUK as well as development partners working in the health sector , among others.
