Kano is promoting arbitration through alternative dispute resolution –Official

Kano State Ministry of Justice says it is working towards promoting arbitration through  Alternative Dispute Resolution mechanism in undertaking its assignment.

The State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice Barr. M A Lawan stated this while declaring open a one-day training workshop on Alternative Dispute Resolution for State Counsels held at Kano Anti-corruption Institute, Goron Dutse, Kano.

This was contained in a statement issued by Kano State Public Complaints and Anti-Corruption Commission Director Special Assignment, Usman Bello on Tuesday and sent to Solacebase.

The statement said the Attorney General expressed concern that despite the global shift to arbitration as an Alternative Dispute Resolution to reduce the number of cases and delay in determining cases in the court of law, the Ministry lacks professional arbitrator in its workforce to effectively key into the new trend, hence the effort of the ministry to train its personnel in the area.

‘’The Attorney general noted that although most counsels now include an arbitration clause in their court processes few have the professional know-how to undertake the arbitration,’’ said the statement.

In the statement, he said the Ministry will sponsor more training for the personnel to empower them in the Alternative Dispute Resolution for the benefit of the people of the state.

According to the statement, the Chairman of the State Public Complaints and Anti-Corruption Commission Barr. Muhuyi Magaji Rimin Gado said over seventy percent of the 20, 000 cases treated at the commission were resolved through Alternative Dispute Resolutions mechanism especially mediation aspect.

Barr. Muhuyi Magaji Rimin Gado charged the participants to make good use of the knowledge they acquired for the benefit of humanity.

About 50 state counsels attended the workshop.
