Kano lawmaker reacts to ICPC accusation on constituency project vehicle

The lawmaker, representing Nasarawa Federal Constituency of Kano State, Alhaji Nasiru Ali Ahmed has denied involvement in the conversion of a constituency project vehicle to personal use.

Solacebase recalls that the Independent Corrupt Practices and other related offences Commission (ICPC) on Tuesday alleged that it recovered allegedly diverted constituency project vehicle converted to personal use by lawmaker representing Nasarawa federal constituency , in Kano State.

According to the commission, it discovered that the vehicle bought was sponsored by Lawmaker representing Nasarawa federal Constituency in the name of constituency projects in 2019 for the use of his community but discovered to have allegedly converted it to his personal use.

The antigraft body said the exercise was carried out in line with its ongoing program of monitoring of constituency projects carried out in 17 states , Kano inclusive.

However, speaking to Solacebase on Wednesday, the lawmaker, Alhaji Nasiru Ali Ahmed expressed surprise over the report noting that , there was no such constituency project vehicle in his custody.

‘’I have never received any Ford vehicle as a constituency project vehicle as been alleged by ICPC, ‘’Alhaji Nasiru Ahmed reiterated.

‘’Also, there was no Ford or any vehicle for that matter that was taken away from my house by the ICPC. If so, where did claim of recovery of a constituency project vehicle from me coming from ? ’’

The lawmaker promised to follow up the story to clear his name as nothing of such has ever happened with all his years in the green chamber.

‘’As a three term lawmaker, I have never short changed my people and that is why they have the confidence to vote me anytime.’’

”I will be very glade if the ICPC is able to conduct a thorough investigate into this matter and makes its finding public so that the people can know where the vehicle was recovered from, and from whom it was recovered.”

Alhaji Nasiru Ali Ahmed restated his full commitment to any investigation of the antigraft body to rid the nation of corruption.

”Please as a journalist, conduct your own investigation to find out together with the ICPC about the identity of the contractor and where the vehicle was supplied to, ”the lawmaker added.

”My only constituency vehicle is a Cadillac Escalade that is in the constituency office, you can pay a visit to the constituency office to find out  for yourself, he added.”
