Kano pays N133m scholarship fees of 47 medical students in Sudan

Kano State Government says it has paid N133m scholarship fees of 47 final year medical students in Khartoum, Sudan.

Solacebase reports that the payment includes, outstanding tuition fees, accommodation and the students return flight tickets.

Chairman, Kano State Public Complaints and Anti -Corruption Commission, Barrister Muhuyi Magaji Rimin Gado who led the state government team announced this on Thursday after settling all the outstanding in Sudan.

Recalls that the State governor, Dr Abdullahi Umar Ganduje had directed the anti-graft commission to take over the foreign scholarship scheme with a view to unravel the alleged fraudulent activities bedevilling the program, the hardship facing many of the students orchestrated by some of those previously handling the scheme.

Muhuyi Magaji Rimigado said with the payment of all outstanding of the 47 female medical students, the students are expected back in the country by next month, February 4^th to prepare for their Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria examination (MDCN) so that they can bridge the human resources gap in the state health sector.

‘’With this payment, we have sorted out the outstanding of all the 47 final year female medical students in Sudan including their flight ticket so that they can return home and give their service to our people in return, ‘’Muhuyi Rimin Gado said.

The anti-graft boss also noted that the state government has released N63m for payment of postgraduate students in France and N70m was paid last week for students in Egypt.

The state government team in Sudan include the Acting Executive Secretary of Kano State Scholarship Board who is the Director Admin and General Service Kawu Nasiru, the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Higher Education, Hussaini Jarma among others.
