Kano people need education now not flyover-Kwankwaso tells Ganduje

Former Kano State Governor, Engr. Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso has criticized the moves of Gov. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje to obtain N20 billion loan to construct flyovers in the state.

The former Kano Central Senator described the initiative as a misplacement of priority.

He lamented this on Friday in an interview with BBC Hausa Service monitored by Solacebase.

Kwankwaso said there is no sense in the administration obtaining loans that would become a burden on the people.

‘’It is the responsibility and plan of the Federal Government to construct a bridge linking Kano to Wudil as it is a federal road, ‘’Kwankwaso said.

‘’Instead, the governor is supposed to meet president Buhari and tell him to ensure the construction of a linking bridge in the area since it has been planned by the federal government so that such fund can be utilized for better projects like education, health.’’

He said all the flyover constructed during his administration were carried out with the peoples’ money, not a loan.

Kwankwaso lamented that qualitative education should have been the priority of the  administration which the people needed not construction of bridges

He faulted the level of debt owed by the Ganduje led administration, noting that recently he requested details of the state borrowing from the Debt Management Office (DMO) and discovered that Kano presently has over N185bn loan accrued to the state.

When asked about the outstanding left by his administration that ran into over N300bn , Kwankwaso said there was nothing a such, but rather a political statement that his administration was owing.

On the alleged sale of lands and government property by the Ganduje led administration, Kwankwaso cautioned those buying such to desist from those purchase as incoming administration in 2023 would demolish whatever structure is erected on those lands as they were acquired illegally.

‘’It so sad that burial grounds, Mosques and others are not spared from this land grabbing by the present administration. Surprisingly, I was recently informed that a land at Dorayi area where the Emir normally have a stopover during traditional Dubar is not spread.’’

When reminded that his administration committed the same act of land grabbing during his tenure, he denied it asking the government to revoke the same if it does exist anywhere.
