Kano signs MOU for establishment of eye care centers in 12 LGAs

Kano State Government has completed arrangements for the Integration of eye care into Primary Health Care by establishing 12 eyes care centres in some selected Local Government Areas of the State.

The State Commissioner of Health Dr Aminu Ibrahim Tsanyawa announced this at the closing ceremony of a two weeks Primary Eye Care training for Primary Health Care workers and the signing of an MOU between the Kano State Government and Al-Basar International Foundation Trust (Makkak Specialists Eye Hospital).

This was contained in a statement issued by Public Relations Officer, Kano State Primary Health Care Management Board, Maikudi Muhammad Marafa and sent to Solacebase on Tuesday.

The statement said Dr Tsanyawa who highlighted the laudable achievement of the present administration in the health sector, reaffirmed that the program is conceived to tackle the rampant cases of eye problem from the grassroots.

According to the statement, the Executive Secretary, Kano State Primary Health Care Management Board Dr Tijjani Hussain said that the twelve selected Primary Health Care centres for the program as contained in the Memorandum include, Nasarawa ( Gwagwarwa PHC), Gwale (Jaen PHC), Garun Malam (G/Malam PHC), Sumaila (Gani PHC), Ajingi (Toranke), Dawakin Tofa (Ganduje PHC), Makoda (Makoda PHC), Kibiya (Kibiya PHC) Rogo (Bari PHC), Bagwai (Bagwai PHC) Tsanyawa (Tsanyawa PHC) and Warawa (Warawa PHC).

‘’Dr. Hussain further noted that the state government will renovate and provide furniture and fittings at the twelve selected Primary Health Care centres and conducting of regular monitoring and supervision of the centres as well as Provision of basic eye equipment in six out of the twelve selected Primary Health Care centres for the primary eye centres, while Al-Basar International foundation will provide the basic eye equipment for the remaining six selected eye centres as contained in the Memorandum, ‘’said the statement.

‘’The Regional Managing Director of the foundation Muhuiddeen Abdallah said, the foundation as a starting point  has trained 36 Primary Health Care workers drawn from the twelve Primary Health Care centres and will also provide basic eye equipment at the remaining six selected Primary Health Care centres for the primary eye care program and conduct a bi-annual free eye screening at the twelve selected Primary Health Care centres.’’

‘’Malam Abdallah stressed that the Al-Basar International foundation as contained in the Memorandum will develop a referral system for ophthalmic cases in Collaboration with the state government, while the twelve selected Primary Health Care centres will enjoy among others, free registration and consultation, Thirty Percent (30%) discount on surgical procedures, Thirty Percent on ophthalmic drugs and Ten percent on the medicated optical glass as contained in the Memorandum.’’
