Kano Traders Bow To Govt. Pressure, Slash Price Of Sugar To N18,000 Per Bag

Following the recent operation search and seizure of hoarded essential commodities by some traders in Kano state embarked on by the State Public Complaints and Anti Corruption, the traders have agreed to slash the price of a bag of sugar which was earlier sold at N28,000 per bag to N18,000 per bag.

The leader of the traders’ delegation, Alhaji Ibrahim Dan Yaro announced this shortly after a meeting with the Chairman of Kano State Public Complaints and Anti-Corruption Commission Barrister Muhuyi Magaji Rimin Gado in his office on Tuesday.

The traders gave assurance to comply with all the rules guiding trading activities in the state on how better to regulate their activities with a view to achieving the set goals.

Responding, the Commission Chairman, Barrister Muhuyi Magaji Rimin Gado said the meeting followed the recent operation search and seizures of hoarded essential commodities by some traders across the state

Solacebase reports that Governor Abdullahi Ganduje, in a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary Abba Anwar on Saturday, directed the State Anti Corruption to monitor and confiscate hoarded essential commodities and distribute same as palliatives.

Muhuyi Magaji Rimin Gado revealed that even though initially the Commission intended to prosecute all those found wanting among the business community, but he pointed out that as a result of the recent development of reduction in the price of some essential items by the traders, the Commission decided to resolve the issue amicably out of court.

Muhuyi further emphasized that the move was not aimed at witch-hunting anybody, but rather to evolve ways that will ease the sufferings of the people most especially during this period of Ramadan fasting which coincide with the outbreak of COVID-19 in Kano

He then assured of his resolve in working hand in hand with all the stakeholders towards ensuring food security for the benefit of all the state.
