Kano’s position on schools re-opening- Official

Kano State Government has emphasized that it would not violate Federal Government’s guidelines of school re-opening amidst the persistent agitations for the re-opening of schools.

The state commissioner of Education, Malam Muhammad Sanusi Sa’id Kiru made the clarification while receiving the All Private & Voluntary Institutions Proprietors Association of Kano State on a courtesy visit in his office.

This was contained in a statement issued by the ministry Public Relations Officer, Aliyu Yusuf and sent to Solacebase on Monday.

”The issue of schools re-opening has been a topic of discussion at states and federal level and we are doing everything possible for the safe re-opening of the schools in compliance with the federal government directives” the statement stressed.

Solacebase reports that the statement said against the speculations going round that some schools in Northern Nigeria have stated re-opening, the commissioner said that no state from the north has given directive to that effect.

According to the statement, Kiru further explained that the forum of the 19 northern states Commissioners of Education are in constant contact and are always discussing ways forward on the re-opening issues.

He said in the statement that, however, since the initial directives for the closure of the schools was from the federal government so also the directives for the re-opening should come from the federal government.

”While appealing to the Proprietors, parents and other stakeholders to be more patient, he said that government is equally concerned on the issue.”

‘’He then appreciates the contributions of the private schools in the state, soliciting for the sustenance of the cordial relationship existing between the Proprietors and the ministry, revealing that the state government has agreed to support the teachers of the Private Schools with palliatives among other goodies ,’’said the statement.

‘’In their separate remarks, the Chairman AMIS Kano, Engr. Bashir Adamu Aliyu, National President AMIS, Malam Saleh Adamu Kwaru and National Vice President NAPPS, Hajiya Maryam Magaji said that they were at the Commissioner’s office to intimate him about the out come of their joint meeting for necessary actions.’’

‘’They expressed satisfaction with the level of preparations by the ministry in ensuring that the schools are re-opened, explaining that the closure has created so many negative impacts in the society that needs to be addressed squarely.’’
