The Kano Electricity Distribution Company (KEDCO) has launched a brand new payment system to address issues of collection leakages by non-staff who amass money on behalf of the company.

The Managing Director of the company, Malam Abubakar Yusuf, disclosed this during a programme that took place at Bristol Palace, Kano, on Tuesday.

Yusuf said the new payment method, introduced in collaboration with IRecharge Product, could also be served as a solution that will make it easier for customers to pay through various options, including USSD, WhatsApp, or bank transfer.

The Managing Director added that, “With this collaboration, customers will find it very easy to make payment for electricity bills, either for prepaid customers or for postpaid customers, regardless of where they are living.

“You can pay for electricity even if you are not living in Nigeria, provided that you use any of the platforms deployed by IRecharge in collaboration with Kano Electricity Distribution Company (KEDCO),” he stated.

The new payment procedure is also accessible to rural area customers as long as they have registered with IRecharge and got their account number generated, a development that will allow them to remit their meter quite easily.

“They can simply go to any POS vendor nearest to them and give their account number generated through the IRecharge platform so that the POS vendors will transfer the same amount to us.”

Also, the Managing Director of IRecharge, Tomi Araromi, said they were able to come up with a new solution that will make it easy for customers to pay their electricity bills.

He said the invention is so good as it does not require any convenience fee and will allow people to get the value of what they have paid through a variety of means that are convenient for the customers.
