Nigerian Union of Local Government Employees, NULGE, has elected Ahmad Labbo as its new president, after the death of late National President, Ibrahim Khaleel.

NULGE at its National Executive Council meeting in Kano on Sunday, unanimously elected Comrade Ahmed Labbo as the new national president to complete the deceased’s tenure that is expected to end in March 2021.

Recalls that the late national president of the union, Ibrahim Khaleel, the slumped and died on Wednesday, October 7, in Abuja.

Solacebase reports that Comrade Ahmed Labbo was former North West Vice President of the union.

In his acceptance speech shortly, after his emergence as the president, Ahmed Labbo promised to continue with the struggle for Local Government autonomy fought by late Ibrahim Khaleel

Comrade Labbo said he was among the foot soldiers that were fighting for the autonomy of Local Government in the country even when his predecessor was alive.

The new National President added that the machinery for the struggle for Local Government autonomy is still on the ground, vowing to continue with the fight until they achieve their mission.

He also stated that he would focus on the legacies established by his late predecessor, adding that he would build on unity of the union, transition program and staff welfare in line with late Khaleel’s philosophy.
