Lassa Fever: Health Minister Urges Care Providers To Wear Protective Device

The Minister of Health Professor Osagie Emmanuel Ehanire has called on health care providers to always wear protective device whenever they are handling patient to protect themselves from been infected.

The Minister made the call when he paid a condolence visit to Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital on Saturday as well as Kano State Government over the death of three doctors, two in the discharge of their duties and one in a ghastly motor accident.

Professor Osagie Emmanuel Ehanire explained that the outbreak of Lassa fever is actively been contained in some states in the country namely, Ogun, Ondo, Oyo Ebonyi, Taraba, Plateau and Kano claiming many lives.

He expressed sadness that the Medical Doctors died in the course of trying to save the life of the infected pregnant woman who is also late.

Earlier in a remark, AKTH Chief Medical Director Professor Abdurrahman Abba Sheshe acknowledged the support accorded the hospital by Kano State government some development partners and the Armed forces Specialists Hospital in Kano.

The CMD then presented a report on the incident resulting in the death of the doctors, the immediate and remote measures taken by the hospital.

Professor Osagie also paid condolence visits to the families of the deceased Medical Doctors at AKTH Quarters and Nassarawa GRA.
