The speaker Kano State House of assembly Kabiru Alhassan Rurum has charged the incoming members to be fully aware that the legislative matters is all about openness and transparency in the course of serving the people.
Kabiru Rurum made the disclosure, on Thursday, in his remarks delivered during the opening pre-inauguration induction of members-elect into 9th Kano state house of assembly held in Kano.
Hon. Rurum added that the practice of legislative matters is not an issue which should be personally enveloped and shrouded in secrecy and undue exclusion of relevant stakeholders.
“We benefitted quite a lot from the realization of the fact that without public participation, the legislative outputs lose credibility and do not captured confidence and trust of the people” He added.
Hon. Kabiru further said that it is very awesome that from June, 2015 to date, 42 bills were passed into law.
Adding that out of this laws, 29 bills were Initiated by the executive, while the remaining 13 were sponsored by the honourable house
In his remark, representative of DFID, Jibrin Ali Giginyu said the working relationship existing between the agency and Kano State House of assembly was a longstanding one, and it is already bearing fruit and also serving collecting purposes of training newly-elected and also the returning members as far as discharging legislative matters are concern.
The two-day inductions courses holding on 2nd and 3rd May is officially organised by DFID to educate the new incoming members and the returning legislatures.
