The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) said it has trained another batch of flight nurses and aircrew for the aeromedical evacuation of critical patients.
Air Commodore Ibikunle Daramola, NAF Director of Public Relations and Information, made this known in a statement on Friday in Abuja.
Daramola said it was in continuation of efforts to further boost the capacity of personnel for the effective and efficient conduct of Aeromedical Evacuation missions.
According to him, the mission is to airlift wounded soldiers from various theatres of operation and other critical patients to appropriate treatment facilities.
He said the graduation of the 20 nurses and four loadmasters took place on Friday at the NAF Base, Kaduna, after two weeks of intensive training.
He said that the training involved theoretical and practical sessions at the NAF School of Medical Sciences and Aviation Medicine (NAFSMSAM), Kaduna and simulation using the C-130H aircraft, configured for Aeromedical Evacuation.
Daramola said that specific areas covered during the two-week training include; Aerospace Physiology, Crew Resource Management, Aircrew Complements and Duties.
Others are, Enplaning and Deplaning Procedures, Infection Control in Aviation, In-flight Patients Care and Aviation Safety.
The NAF spokesperson also said that graduation ceremony featured demonstration where participants and crew of the force C-130H aircraft simulated the care and management of in-flight patients.
AVM Musa Mukhtar, the Air Officer Commanding, Air Training Command (AOC ATC), who spoke during the ceremony expressed satisfaction with the well-executed simulation exercise.
Mukhtar said the event was in line with the Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar focus on “human capacity development through robust and result-oriented training for enhanced professional performance”.
He said that the participants had undoubtedly benefited from the training.
He, therefore, advised them to make good use of what they had learnt to add value to operations as they return to their various units.
The air officer commanding stressed that personnel must also be ready to put their new skills to test in providing services to the Nation through the evacuation of critically ill patients.
He commended the NAF Medical Services branch for the steps it took to upgrade the skills of its personnel to meet current and emergency healthcare challenges.
Daramola said the high points of the ceremony was the elaborate simulation, which showcased the skills acquired by the participants in evacuating critical patients.
They demonstrated the evacuation of COVID-19 patients, from originating medical facility to a destination medical facility.
Daramola added that the graduation brought to 40 the number of NAF personnel trained for the Aeromedical Evacuation of critical case-patients, using the C-130H aircraft, with 16 trained just over a month ago. (NAN)
