The National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) has rescued 19 underage girls from being trafficked to Saudi Arabia from Kano.
NAPTIP Zonal Coordinator in Kano Mr Josiah Emeron confirmed this to newsmen on Thursday.
Mr Josiah Emeron said the girls are Kano indigenes that were about being trafficked to Saudi Arabia under the pretext of getting them gainfully employed but rather would subsequently be forced into prostitution and slavery.
The NAPTIP Zonal Coordinator explained that they rescued based on surveillance and information given to the agency by good Samaritans.
Also speaking to newsmen on the issue, founder of a NGO Dr. Saudatu Mahadi said the dangers associated with trafficking of this nature are for the girls to be sold into prostitution, losing their human dignity and at times even losing their lives such was the case in Libya.
