NEMA Inaugurates Emergency Operation Centres Over Flooding

The Director General, National Emergency Management Agency, Mustapha Maihaja, has inaugurated five emergency operation centres to facilitate prompt search and rescue operations during flooding.

According to the agency, the centres, are also expected to provide humanitarian support in the 12 states that are mostly affected by flooding.

The five emergency centres with eight personnel are to cover Niger, Kwara, Kogi, Edo, Benue, Taraba, Adamawa, Anamabra, Delta, Rivers and Bayelsa states.

The emergency response centres, the NEMA DG explained in a statement on Sunday, would be responsible for planning, organising, directing and supervising the deployment of resources with the affected state governments, local authorities and communities.

The statement signed by the Head, Media and Public Relations, NEMA, Sani Datti, stated that the primary objective of establishing the centres was to localise responses and expedite interventions to save lives and facilitate quick recovery.

At the command centre in Abuja, it added that the director general of NEMA and other chief executives would be responsible for formulating policies and operational guidelines for the conduct of emergency operations in all the affected states.
