The Nigerian Postal Service has acquired 100 motorbikes and 10 mail vans to reposition and compete better with private operators.
The Post-Master General of the Federation and the Chief Executive Officer of NIPOST, Adeyemi Adepoju, at the launch of the new acquisitions in Abuja on Friday, decried the poor state of postal service in the country.
Adepoju lamented that private operators and transporters had taken over customers from the agency.

He said, “At the inception of my administration, the quality of our postal services had degenerated abysmally: Our infrastructures have weakened and broken down in many places. Private operators and transporters have taken over some of our customers and our profitable services.
“As part of our current strategic agenda of repositioning the organisation for better performance and greater contribution to the socio-economic development of the country’s digital economy, Nigerian Postal Service recently commissioned and flagged off 10 operational mail vans for the coverage of the major mail routes in the country.

“Today’s event is also a step forward in NIPOST re-engineering process towards enhancing and improving our quality-of-service delivery. The 100 motorbikes and 10 new operational mail vans to be commissioned today, are to complement the other 10 operational mail vans, bringing to total 20 mail vans towards achieving efficiency in the last mile delivery.”

He urged the Federal Government to support the positive transformation on going in NIPOST, to bring realization of the renewed NIPOST.
