NUC wants creation of more tertiary institutions as it inspect proposed university in Kano

The National Universities Commission (NUC) says the increasing number of universities in Nigeria is at the best interest of the populace.

The commission said the federal government in collaboration with other stakeholders are committed to the establishment of more universities in the country for the citizens to have access to qualitative education in the country.

NUC Executive Secretary, Professor Abubakar Rasheed stated this in Kano on Tuesday when he led a delegate from Commission to inspect the level of completion and assessment of infrastructure and capacities of a proposed private university, Capital City University, Kano.

The NUC Executive secretary represented by director public affairs in the Commission, Ibrahim Usman Yakasai, said as a proposed University in the country, Capital City University, Kano is doing very well to meet the requirement.

He assured of NUC support for the proposed capital city University, Kano and other proposed tertiary institutions in the country.

‘’Annually over 2 million candidates try to gain admission to tertiary institutions in the country while the capacity of all the institutions does not exceed 500,000. So what happens to other qualified candidates? Hence the need to establish more citadels of learning in the country, ‘’said the NUC boss.

Solacebase recalled the last week the NUC expressed support for the creation of more tertiary institutions while making a submission at a public hearing on the Bills for the Establishment of Federal University of Technology Asaba, Delta State, and the Federal College of Education (FCE) Keana, Nassarawa State.

During the inspection of the ongoing construction of proposed Capital City University, Kano in his remark, the proprietor of the proposed University Malam Abdulmalik Isah said hopefully the institution would take off next year.

He noted that the university would start a new session of 2020/2021 next year if granted approval by the  NUC.
