Partners West Africa Nigeria, an International Non-Governmental Organisation on Thursday reiterated commitment to sustain its legal clinic at rural areas through its Public Defenders Office in Kano.
Administrator of the Public Defenders Office in Kano, Mrs. Rutkang Kuyunni, stated this at Tamburawa village in Dawakin Kudu local government area of Kano during a sensitization to the community on legal services rendered free by Public Defenders office.
Mrs Rutkang Kuyunni said the office with 10 legal officers provide free representation in court, counselling and mediation for indigent people, hence the need to be in Tamburawa village.
“We decided to bring this legal outreach services here considering some of the challenges bedevelling them that we have observed noting that many of them cannot afford legal services while others does not even understand how to seek redress when their rights are infringe upon, “said Kuyunni.
In a remark, the Village Head Alhaji Auwalu Umar Dantunbi represented by the ward Head of Zango Alhaji Mahmud Ahmad Waziri said the awareness program was of immense benefit to the people on how they can protect their rights.
Some of the residents at the sensitisation expressed happiness, nothing that the effort educated them a lot.
The Partners West Africa Nigeria also known as Rule of Law and Empowerment initiative established the public Defenders office after conducting court observatory in Kano for about six months and saw the need for it.
