The Diso Ward secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Gwale Local Government Area of Kano State, was on Wednesday Ahmad Dalhat arraigned before Magistrate Court 16 in the state for alleged forgery.

Malam Dalhat was dragged to court by one Jaafar Sani-Bello, a PDP aspirant, for  allegedly accepting forged document in favour of Kano gubernatorial candidate of the party, Abba Kabir Yusuf, who allegedly did not formally communicate to his ward’s chapter of his defection from All Progressives Congress, APC.

Jaafar Sani-Bello added that to his dismay, the same  Dalhat, who after deposing to an affidavit that Yusuf did not formally write to the party about his entry, came with another affidavit, sworn  to by him that the governorship candidate wrote him a letter, informing the party’s chapter of his defection to PDP.

He was charged with lying under oath, uttering and forgery, offences that contravened Sections 362, 363 and 364 of the Penal Code of Northern Nigeria, 1963.

The accused however pleaded not guilty to the 3-count charges, just as his lawyer prayed to the court to grant his client bail.

In his ruling,  Magistrate Ibrahim Khalil noted that, “though the offence may not be bailable in some instances, he could tamper justice with mercy to grant the bail for the accused.”

Khalil then slammed a N5 million bail on the defendant with two sureties, one of which must be a PDP state chairman and a director at either federal or state civil service, with notable residence and office.
