Police arraign man for ‘stabbing’ friend with broken bottle

A 32-year-old man, Tosin Omotoye, on Friday appeared before a Surulere Chief Magistrates’ Court in Lagos, for allegedly stabbing his friend with a broken bottle.

Omotoye, whose house address was not given, is facing a charge of assault.

The Prosecutor, Insp Sadiq Adewale, told the court that Omotoye committed the offence on Feb. 2, 2024 at Asani Plaza, Ojuelegba Road, Surulere, Lagos.

Adewale alleged that Omotoye stabbed the complainant, one Amobi Martins, with a broken bottle on the left side of his face and on his head.

He submitted that Omotoye viciously attacked the complainant with a broken bottle after a heated argument.

The offence, Adewale said, contravened section 173 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

The magistrate, Mr Ganiyu Tiamiyu, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N200,000 with two responsible sureties in like sum.

He directed that the sureties must have their addresses verified by the court.

Tiamiyu, however, adjourned the matter until March 8 for mention.
